Canicross Drills & Running Skills Session

$65.00

A two-hour, hands-on canicross clinic with Joy Weis of Lucky Fox Racing & Coaching

Date: September 13th, 2026

Time: 9:00am

Location: Deer Grove-East Picnic Grove #4 Palatine, IL 60074

Learn how to move more efficiently, confidently, and safely with your dog during this interactive canicross drill session taught by Joy Weis of Lucky Fox Racing and co-hosted by Chicago Canicross and McHenry County Canicross & Dog Sports.

This session will cover essential canicross topics including equipment, race opportunities, temperature considerations, dog care, and preparing your team for safe participation. A large portion of the clinic will focus on what it really means to run well with your dog—and how the handler’s movement, cadence, posture, and running form can influence the entire team.

Participants will work on skills such as:

  • Using cadence to manage speed and control

  • Improving running form while connected to a dog

  • Building more efficient and controlled starts

  • Understanding how handler movement affects the dog

  • Recognizing common form issues and how to correct them

  • Improving use of canicross commands

  • Preparing for training runs and races

  • Managing temperature, recovery, and dog welfare

  • Finding appropriate canicross events and racing opportunities

Depending on attendance, participants may work in small groups or receive individualized feedback on running form, starts, and team movement.

The session will include drills, instruction, discussion, and a guided 1-2 mile group run with plenty of breaks for the dogs. Participants may walk portions of the route as needed.

What to Bring

  • Properly fitted canicross equipment, if available

  • Comfortable running shoes

  • Weather-appropriate clothing

  • Water for yourself and your dog

  • Dog bowl

  • Treats or rewards

  • Any questions about equipment, training, or racing

This is a working clinic rather than a race or continuous group run. The focus is on learning, practicing, receiving feedback, and helping each team move more effectively together.
