(Beginner-Friendly • On-Land & On-Water Skills)
Ever wondered if your dog would enjoy kayaking?
This beginner-friendly experience is designed to help people and dogs safely explore the world of paddling together. Whether you're brand new to kayaking or simply unsure how your dog will respond to a boat, this class provides a supportive environment to build confidence at your dog's pace.
We'll start in shallow water, allowing dogs to investigate kayaks, practice getting in and out of the boat, and become comfortable with the movement and feel of being on the water. Once dogs are relaxed and ready, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a short guided paddle together.
No previous kayaking experience is required.
During this hands-on experience, you'll learn:
• How to safely introduce your dog to a kayak
• Equipment recommendations and safety considerations
• Proper use and fitting of canine life jackets
• Entering and exiting the kayak with your dog
• Building confidence on and around the water
• Reading your dog's comfort level and body language
• Basic paddling safety and etiquette
Participants should expect:
• A relaxed, beginner-friendly environment
• Time for dogs to explore and acclimate at their own pace
• Opportunities to practice on land and in shallow water
• A short guided paddle experience
• Plenty of support, coaching, and encouragement
Kayaks, paddles, and life jackets may be available for use during the event. Dogs should be comfortable around water, but they do not need prior kayaking experience.
By the end of the experience, you'll have a better understanding of whether kayaking is a good fit for you and your dog—and the confidence to continue exploring new adventures together.
Because some of the best adventures begin where the trail meets the water.
